in Vadamarachchi East Begins

Resettlements of war-displaced families in Vadamarachchi East,
Jaffna began on Monday (30.08.2010) on completion of clearing
the area of mines and unexploded ordnance by Army engineers
and other foreign de-mining agencies.
At
the first stage, eighty one families at Ampan in Marathankerni
Divisional Secretariat were resettled in their village which
remained a restricted area due to threat of mines and explosives
laden by the LTTE during war.
A
brief function graced by Commander Security Forces-Jaffna
(SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe as Chief Guest
had been organized to mark the occasion at Kudaththanai government
school on Monday.
The event coincided with handing over some donations to villagers
and schoolchildren. Tin roofing sheets and a stock of cement
were distributed among the resettled families as a helping
hand for renovation and reconstruction of their houses while
forty farming families received agriculture equipment from
the Chief Guest.
Meanwhile,
thirty four children who showed higher performance at their
studies were gifted with school items by the 52 Division.
At
the same time, as continuation to SF-J’s backyard poultry
project initiated by Commander SF-J to boost the daily income
of families with low income and to alleviate malnutrition
among children of poor families in Jaffna, 500 chicks were
distributed among fifty families.
Security
Forcers-Jaffna recently withdrew its camp at Pallepai and
the civilians’ houses that had been occupied by the Army were
handed over to their owners the same day.

General Officer Commanding 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe,
Commander 521 Brigade Lieutenant Colonel Tikiri Dissanayake,
Divisional Secretary Marathankerni Mr. Sri Skandha Kumar,
Zonal Director of Education Point Pedro Mr. Nanda Kumar, senior
Army officers and people in the area were present on the occasion.
