Foreign Secretary Visits Jaffna

Indian Foreign Secretary Ms Nirupama Rao on Tuesday (31.08.2010),
met a section of community, religious and business leaders in Jaffna
during her visit to the peninsula to witness the progress of development
in Jaffna.
Ms
Nirupama Rao first attended a conference held at the District Secretariat
where the District Secretary and other senior administrative officials
presented an overall view of the development work being conducted
and resettlement taking place in respective areas.
During
the stay in Jaffna, the Indian Foreign Secretary discussed with
senior military officers of Security Forces – Jaffna and expressed
her satisfaction about the ongoing development and welfare projects
in progress.
She was especially interested in getting updated about resettlement
of IDPs and rapid normalizing of war-affected areas in Jaffna.
Ms
Rao had also served as the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka
before being appointed to the present office.
