Scouts Join Jaffna Counterparts in Jamboree; Conduct Sramadana at
Jaffna Schools

Over one hundred scouts of Dharmaraja College Kandy, on a special
mission to strengthen bonds with northern counterparts, toured Jaffna
and held a three day camp at Kopay this week.
Scouts
who won the 2009 President’s Award with their junior members of
the college headed by District Commissioner Kandy Mr. Sanath Mataraarachchi,
altogether 140, reached Kopay on 31st August. Twenty one scouts
from Thirunelveli Muttutambi M.V., Kopay Catholic College, Kondavil
Hindu College and ten girl guides from Jaffna with leadership of
Assistant District Commissioner Point Pedro Mr. V. Shanmugalingam
joined the Rajans in the camp and several other civic-oriented activities.
Scouts
of Dharmaraja conducted sramadana campaigns at the schools of their
Jaffna friends. They cleaned and colour washed old buildings of
Thirunelveli Muttutambi M.V., Kopay Catholic College, Neerveli Aththiyar
College and Kondavil Hindu College at their expense.
Nagadeepa
Buddhist and Hindu temple premises were also cleaned by them removing
polythene and other wastes scattered around during the visit to
the island.
Civil
Affairs Office of the 511 Brigade Security Forces-Jaffna coordinated
the event.
Dharmaraja College provided meals and accommodation to Jaffna students
during their recent visit to Kandy.
