Prime aim of organizing this tournament was to introduce hardball
cricket to younger generation in Jaffna who had been deprived of
opportunity to engage in sport activities nearly for three decades
due to LTTE movements in the North. It is also a part of Civil –
Military Coordinating activities initiated by Commander Security
Forces-Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe to strengthen
the trust and friendship between Security Forces and Jaffna community.
SF-J by organizing these type of sports festivals expects to encourage
Jaffna sports-loving youth and produce at least one cricketer to
the Sri Lankan Cricket Team from Jaffna.
Brigadier General Staff SF-J, Brigadier BCJAF Rodrigo graced the
occasion as Chief Guest while a large gathering of military personnel
and civilians witnessed the match.
