Basil Reviews Progress of Jaffna Development Work

Progress of development work currently being carried out in Jaffna
under the “Uthuru Wasanthaya” or Wadakkai Wasantham was
reviewed on Wednesday (15.09.2010) during a special meeting held
at the District Secretariat Jaffna.
Minister of Economic Development Mr Basil Rajapaksa who arrived
in Jaffna for the purpose headed the meeting attended by Hon. Minister
of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Mr. Douglas
Devananda, Governor Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A.
Chandrasiri, District Secretary Jaffna Ms Imelda Sukumar Senior
Military Officers, Senior Administrative officials and community
leaders in Jaffna District.
Secretaries described the Minister about the progress of the development
work in respective areas while special attention was drawn on paddy
cultivation during the oncoming season, construction work of the
Sangupiddy jetty and difficulties faced by fishier communities.
General Officer Commanding 51 Division Major General Janaka Walgama
briefed the Minister and the gathering on the shrinking of the prevailing
High Security Zone according to future directives of Colombo higher
headquarters and the progress of de-mining activities.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa issued further instructions to relevant
authorities with regard to present development work before he left
for Colombo the same day.
