To explore feasibilities of uplifting livelihood of people in Jaffna,
a three-member UN delegation met Commander Security Forces-Jaffna
(SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe on Tuesday (21.09.2010)
afternoon at Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office Jaffna.
Head of UNHCR Jaffna Ms Indu Mohandas, Security Coordinating Officer
UNHCR Jaffna Mr. Sriyan Jayasinghe and Head of UNDP Jaffna Mr. K.
Nishanthan explained their schedule to be implemented for the benefit
of fishing community in need to the Commander SF-J and requested
assistance for access to those areas to evaluate the present situation.
At the discussion, Commander SF-J stressed the need of a concerted
effort by all INGOs to coordinate their assistance to the affected
people and assured them of the fullest corporation by Security Forces
in their endeavours. UN officials were also informed that a project
coordinating meeting will be held soon at the Jaffna District Secretariat
to enhance the efficiency of services.
