Servicemen Join Hindus to Celebrate “Nava Rathri”

Over one thousand soldiers, sailors, airmen and Police personnel
serving under the Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SF-J) on
Saturday (09.10.2010) joined the massive crowd of devotees gathered
at the Naguleshwaran Hindu Temple at Keeramalai to attend a special
pooja organized to celebrate Nava Rathri, another
significant religious event of the Hindu calendar.
(SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe along with several senior
officers offered fruit, flowers and incense to pay homage to Durga,
the Hindu Goddess of Valour to whom the first three nights of the
festival are dedicated.
Kurukkal of the Kovil conducted religious performances blessing
the Security Forces and Police, especially those who serve in Jaffna.
The head priest preyed the deity for strength and courage to all
soldiers to continue their service to the country on the eve of
Army’s 61st Anniversary Day that falls on 10th October.
four thousand pious Hindus arrived in Keeramalai from different
places in the country attended the Pooja.
Nava Rahtri festival that commenced on 8th instant will
last for nine nights paying homage to Durga the Goddess of Valour,
Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth and Saraswathi, the Goddess of Knowledge.
