Troops Celebrate Armyís 61st Anniversary

On par with the main ceremony at Army Headquarters, Security Forces
Headquarters-Jaffna (SF-J) celebrated the Sri Lanka Armyís 61st
Anniversary with pride and splendor on Sunday (10.10.2010).
Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe hoisted the Army
Flag before officers and other ranks who had fallen in line at the
parade square sang the Army song and observed two minute silence
to remember fallen war heroes.
Later, SF-J Commander addressing the gathering recapitulated victories
and hardships that Sri Lanka Army faced at different periods from
its inception. While wishing spiritual relief, according to their
religious beliefs, to all who laid their lives in the war, and wishing
fast recovery to those who were injured, Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe
conveyed his best wishes to serving officers, other ranks and members
of civilian staff and also to their families for their immense contribution
to earn reputation to the Army. Then Army Commanderís message was
read out to the gathering.
To mark the 61st Anniversary, SF-J Commander planted a mango sapling
in the Headquarters premises.
After the main event at SF-J Headquarters, troops conducted a sramadana
campaign to clean Vasavilan Central College.
Coinciding with the Army Day, SF-J Commander visited tri forces
and Police personnel undergoing treatment at Army Base hospital,
Palaly on the previous day and distributed parcels of gifts to them.
