Soldiers now Fighting a Different War to Ensure Wellbeing of Civilians”

“Soldiers who fought terrorism those days are fighting another battle
today to ensure wellbeing of war-affected civilians and we must
be thankful to Jaffna Commander and his soldiers for their noble
effort in this regard,” said the District Secretary and Government
Agent Jaffna Mrs. Emelda Sukumar attending a function organized
to hand over wheelchairs and artificial limbs to physically handicapped
civilians on Saturday, 9th October 2010.
The donation was arranged by the Civil Affairs Office of the 511
Brigade with sponsorship of Kandy-based charitable firm “Centre
for Handicapped”. A ceremony to hand over the donation of 57 modern
wheelchairs and 114 artificial limbs worth over Rs. 5 million to
recipients took place at the Kopay Government Teachers’ College
hundred and sixty six civilians including children and elderly men
and women with different physical disabilities received wheelchairs
and artificial limbs from Commander Security Forces Headquarters

General Janaka Walgama, Commander 511 Brigade Colonel Keerthi Costa,
Chairman Centre for Handicapped Mr. Shamal Pieris and some invitees.

Colonel D.S. Abegunasekara who coordinated the donastion, officers
of the donor organization, principal Teachers’ College Mr. V.K.
Kanapathi Pille, a large crowd of government officials and civilians
were present on the occasion.
