Classes Started at Vasavilan College
[Updated :: 2010-10-12 18:25:28 Hours]

Vasavilan Central College, a prominent government school, which imparted knowledge to thousands of students and to teacher trainees who followed In-Service Training at Kopay Teachers’ College reopened on Monday (11.10.2010).

Formal education system of the school collapsed after the LTTE deployed its fighting cadres inside school buildings to launch attacks against Security Forces. However, the area including the school premises was liberated by the Security Forces in September 1990. The heavily-mined land remained a part of the Palaly High Security Zone up to 29th September 2010 until it was handed over to the Education Department on completion of removal of explosives buried by the LTTE and their fortified bunkers.

Representing the Commander Security Forces-Jaffna, Commander 515 Brigade Colonel A.G.D.N. Jayasundara attended the ceremonial opening of academic sessions at school.

Presently 580 boys and 615 girls are attending the College. One complete building will be refurbished for the students by the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna in near future..
