of CPA UK Arrives in Jaffna

A UK Parliamentary delegation on an official visit in the island
these days arrived in Jaffna on Wednesday (20.10.2010) to get first
hand knowledge on development and humanitarian projects in effect
in the Jaffna peninsula.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK (CPA) delegation headed
by Rt. Hon. Paul Murphy, Member of UK Parliament representing the
Labour Party was received by Brigadier B.C.J.A.F. Rodrigo, Brigadier
General Staff Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) on their arrival at
the SF-J Headquarters.
During a briefing on the present situation in Jaffna conducted by
Brig. Rodrigo at the SF-J auditorium, members of the CPA were keen
in learning about de-mining and resettlement programmes being carried
out by the Army in association with other foreign agencies and Jaffna
Civil Administration authorities.
The delegation was pleased about the effort taken by the SF-J to
improve standard of the Jaffna community life and assistance extended
by the Sri Lanka Army for the development work mooted by the Sri
Lankan government. After attending the briefing, the team visited
many locations in Jaffna.
The CPA-UK delegation comprised Rt. Hon. Paul Murphy, Hon. Stephen
Hammond, Hon. David Amess, Lord Dholakia, Hon. Mrs. Helen Grant,
Rt. Hon. Lord Grocott, Hon. Ms. Fiona O'Connor, Ms. Emma Reynolds,
Lord Sheik, Mr. Andrew Tuggey, the Secretary CPA- UK Branch, and
Mr. Hatty Cooper, Secretary to the Delegation.
