Students Enjoy Four-Day Trip to Up Country

One more group of students and teachers of Point Pedro (PPD) along
with their parents were recently taken on a trip to up country by
the Civil Affairs Office functioning under PPD-based 524 Brigade
of Security Forces- Jaffna.
Seventy seven students and ten teachers from Hartley College, Methodist
College, Ponnambalam College and Vigneswara College with some parents
and four small children who were accompanied by officers of the
524 Brigade enjoyed seeing a number of beautiful and important places
in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya for four days.
The tour named as “Thal Aranen Kandukarayata (From Palmyra land
to up country)” on 15th and 16th October took them to Sri Dalada
Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth), Peradeniya Botanical Garden, University
of Peradeniya, Kotmale reservoir and Labukelle tea factory.
On the 17th, they visited Nuwara Eliya Seethai Amman Kovil, Hakagala
Gardens, New Zealand farm, Victoria Park and Hindu Temples in the
area. Their food and accommodation had been arranged by District
Secretariats of Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, 2nd Battalion Sri Lanka
Rifle Corps, Trade Union and SSP office Nuwara Eliya.
Students of Nuwara Eliya had organized a colourful cultural show
for the enjoyment of their northern brothers and sisters who took
a great pleasure in dancing to tune of Army calypso. District Secretariat
Nuwara Eliya presented a parcel of valuable school items to each
student from Jaffna.
On their return journey on 18th, the team worshipped famous Rangiri
Dambulu temple at Dambulla.
was the first experience of all children and some teachers and parents
in the up country. Warm welcome they received in visiting areas
made their journey an interesting one.
