One more group of students and teachers of Point Pedro (PPD) along with their parents were recently taken on a trip to up country by the Civil Affairs Office functioning under PPD-based 524 Brigade of Security Forces- Jaffna.

Seventy seven students and ten teachers from Hartley College, Methodist College, Ponnambalam College and Vigneswara College with some parents and four small children who were accompanied by officers of the 524 Brigade enjoyed seeing a number of beautiful and important places in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya for four days.

The tour named as “Thal Aranen Kandukarayata (From Palmyra land to up country)” on 15th and 16th October took them to Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth), Peradeniya Botanical Garden, University of Peradeniya, Kotmale reservoir and Labukelle tea factory.

On the 17th, they visited Nuwara Eliya Seethai Amman Kovil, Hakagala Gardens, New Zealand farm, Victoria Park and Hindu Temples in the area. Their food and accommodation had been arranged by District Secretariats of Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, 2nd Battalion Sri Lanka Rifle Corps, Trade Union and SSP office Nuwara Eliya.

Students of Nuwara Eliya had organized a colourful cultural show for the enjoyment of their northern brothers and sisters who took a great pleasure in dancing to tune of Army calypso. District Secretariat Nuwara Eliya presented a parcel of valuable school items to each student from Jaffna.

On their return journey on 18th, the team worshipped famous Rangiri Dambulu temple at Dambulla.

This was the first experience of all children and some teachers and parents in the up country. Warm welcome they received in visiting areas made their journey an interesting one.
