School Receives Gesture of Goodwill from People of Uva

Foundation stone was laid to a new two storied building at Kopay
Navalar Government Mixed Tamil (G.M.T.) school on Sunday (14.11.2010)
by the Chief Minister Uva Province Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksa.
On the arrival in Kopay, the Chief Minister accompanied by Commander
Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J) Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe received
a warm welcome from children, teachers, parents and government officials.
After religious performances fulfilled by Hindu priests to bless
the chief guests and other distinguished guests, Mr. Rajapaksa,
SF-J Commander and Vice Chancellor Jaffna University garlanded the
statue of Sri Armuga Navalar, the founder of the school.
Foundation stone was laid at the auspicious time by the Chief Gust
to the new two storied classroom building of 90’ x 25’. Construction
is to be completed soon with Rs. 5 million worth building materials
provided by the Uva Provincial Council and the labour of Army soldiers.
The capital for construction of the building is a donation of Uva
students, parents and teachers who were more concerned on needs
of Jaffna students than theirs in Uva Province.
Commander SF-J conveyed his sincere thanks to the Chief Minister
and the people in Uva for their contribution towards the education
development in Jaffna. He declared hopes that this project would
strengthen relations between the Uva and the North, especially in
Senior officers of the SF-J, Department of Education and Higher
Education and the administrative service and a large crowd of civilians
took part in the function.
