Supports National Campaign Planting 50,000 Trees in Jaffna

Headquarters Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J) with participation of
officers and other ranks serving at all Army formations under the
SF-J joined the National Tree Planting Campaign by planting Palmyra,
coconut and various kinds of other valuable trees throughout the
peninsula Monday (15.11.2010) morning.
Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe inaugurated the
campaign in Jaffna planting a coconut sapling near the SF-J Headquarters
Palaly at auspicious time. He was followed by all ranks at the SF-J
Headquarters planting 300 coconut plants within the premises.
The main ceremony at Palaly was coincided by planting of nearly
50,000 of various kinds of plants by soldiers in other areas of
Jaffna together with civiliansí organizations who collectively contributed
their share to the national campaign of planting 1100000 trees island-wide
initiated to mark the swearing in of His Excellency the President
Mahinda Rajapaksa on 19th November for the second term.
Most significantly, to adorn either side of the A-9 road, various
kinds of valuable trees were planted today from Elephant Pass to
Eluthumaduval, a stretch of 22 km.
To recover the loss and damage incurred to Palmyra cultivation during
the recent war, prominence was given to Palmyra during the Jaffna
tree planting campaign.
