Road Development Project Launched in Jaffna

A mega road development project in Jaffna was ceremoniously launched
on Sunday (14.11.2010) by Hon. Parliamentarian Mr. Namal Rajapaksa.
The project to be completed within 30 months under the government’s
Uthuru Wasanthaya (Wadakkin Wasantham) programme for the north will
be carried out by the Ministry of Highways and Road Development
with assistance of the Chinese government.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the Puttur junction with participation
of Hon. Member of Parliament for Hambantota District Mr. Namal Rajapaksa
who received a rousing welcome from Jaffna citizens.
Under this project, nearly 84 km on four main roads in Jaffna will
be developed. Jaffna-Point Pedro road, Jaffna-Palaly road, Jaffna-Kankesanthurai
road and Puttur-Meesalai road will be reconstructed and carpeted
to facilitate easy transportation of goods and passengers along
these roads promoting rapid development in the peninsula.
The meeting held at Puttur Somaskanda College in this regard was
attended by Hon. Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Pieris,
Hon. Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development
Mr. Douglas Devananda, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna Major
General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Government Agent Jaffna Mrs. Imelda
Sukumar and a host of senior military and administrative officers.
