Bells Chime in Jaffna

Bells of Peace chimed and Songs of Peace were sung to celebrate
the Happy Christmas that is to dawn within a few days when Security
Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SF-J) organized CIMIC CHRISTMAS CAROLS
2010 Wednesday (15.12.2010) evening in the Jaffna town.
artistes from the south and Jaffna, choirs of Jaffna churches and
schools sang famous English, Tamil and Sinhala Christmas songs along
with members of the Sri Lanka Army band.
event commenced with introduction and Opening Prayers by Rev. Fr.
Dr. Michael Saundranayagam and the choir of St. Francis Xavier’s
Seminary Jaffna. Carols which commenced around 5.30 p.m. with the
arrival of Bishop Jaffna Most Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas Saundranayagam,
Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu and Islamic clergies, Vicar General Jaffna
Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Justin B. Gnanaprakasam, Commander Security Forces
Jaffna Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Mayoress Jaffna Mrs. Yogeswari
Pathgunarasa, Brigadier General Staff SF-J Brig, B.C.J.A.F. Rodrigo
and other invited guests at Our Lady of Refugee Church where the
function had been organized entertained multi religious and multi
ethnic crowd nearly for three hours.
the inauguration, Bishop Jaffna Most Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas Saundranayagam
delivering his Christmas Message said that Christmas brings the
time of rejoices and happiness which forgets differences and promotes
peace and harmony. “We have been successful in fighting a difficult
war which resulted in destruction and loss of lives. Thanks to our
Security Forces, we now have peace”, added Most Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas
Saundranayagam before he concluded the speech wishing all a Peaceful
performance by Santa Claus who distributed Christmas gifts to all
children present at the venue was the most attractive event that
thrilled them. CIMIC CHRISTMAS CAROLS 2010 concluded with a magnificent
Choirs of St. Theresa Convent of Atchuveli, Roman Catholic School
of Navanthurai, Vembady Girls’ High School of Jaffna, St. Henry
College of Jaffna, St. John’s and College and Chundikkuly Girls’
College of Jaffna also contributed in singing songs of peace.
