Dairy Farmers Receive Formal Training in A’ Pura

Eleven Jaffna farmers, who successfully completed a residential
training course on dairy farming at Seeppukulama Agriculture Training
Centre in Anuradhapura, returned home this weekend.
With blessing of Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath
Jayasuriya, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) Major General
Mahinda Hathurusinghe has implemented many livelihood promoting
projects for the people in the north. On this concept, Civil Affairs
and Public Relations Office Jaffna arranged this one month training
with coordination of the Department of Animal Products and Health.
On the other hand, this is an effort of the Army to revitalize the
fallen dairy farming in Jaffna through which agriculture economy
in the peninsula could be developed.
Ten male farmers and one female selected from different areas in
Jaffna were provided free transport by the SF-J to Seeppukulama
where they attended the course which lasted from 16th November to
16th December. During the stay, trainees were provided free food
and lodging by the farm authorities.
On their return to the Civil Affairs Office, farmers expressed their
satisfaction about the programme and experience they shared with
twenty seven other Sinhalese trainees from the south. The farmers
extended their thanks to the Army for creating such valuable opportunities
for Jaffna farmers. It was the first time a team of ordinary farmers
received such training at a training centre in the south.
Four soldiers from the SF-J also followed the same course with them.
