Civilians Get Christmas Gifts from Army

the whole of Jaffna is getting ready to welcome the merriment of
Christmas 2010, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) Major
General Mahinda Hathurusinghe accompanied by his senior ground commanders
of the 55 Division took Christmas gifts to recently-resettled civilians
in Champianpattu area.
large number of displaced families were sent to their former homesteads
in Maruthankerny, Mamunai, Champianpattu north and Champianpattu
south within last few months after Army Engineers and foreign de-mining
agencies cleared the land of LTTE mines.
make the oncoming Christmas happier and more joyous one for those
civilians, majority Catholics whose main occupation is fishing,
Commander SF-J Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe distributed parcels
of dry ration including rice, grain, sugar and spices etc. to a
cross section of families from all Grama Niladhari Divisions. A
function in this regard was held at J / Champianpattu Roman Catholic
Tamil Mixed (RCTM) School on Saturday (18.12.2010). Commander SF-J
did not forget to speak to the crowd of over 250 civilians present
at RCTM School and to wish them Merry Christmas. On the same occasion,
to encourage children there for education, twenty students selected
from needy families received schools bags and exercise books from
the Army for the new school term in 2011.
Officer Commanding Brigadier Sudath Perera, Commander 551 Brigade
Lieutenant Colonel Sumith Premalal and of Battalion Commanders serving
in the area attended the function.
