New Bus Service via Thanankilappu Facilitates Hundreds of Villagers

Residents in Thanankilappu, Maravanpulo, Kovilakkandy and Kachchanthoppu areas, who lacked the facility of Public transport for many years, will hereafter be able to move between Chavakachcheri and Jaffna conveniently using the new bus service commenced with the beginning of the new year.

The new bus service started on the 1st of January after the difficulty of transport faced by schoolchildren, sick and elderly persons and hundreds of other dwellers in those areas was brought to the notice of the Divisional Secretary and the Government Agent Jaffna by the Civil Affairs Office of the 523 Brigade at Nunavil. Their transport problem was a major issue at discussions of a few Civil Development Committees comprising Army officers and community leaders in respective areas.

The service provided by Jaffna Private Bus Association will facilitate transport between Chavakachcheri and Jaffna via Thnankilappu, Maravanpulo, Kovilakkandy and Kachchanthoppu. The bus is scheduled to leave Chavakachcheri twice a day, at 7.15 a.m. and 11.30 a.m.. It takes two turns from Jaffna to Chavakachcheri, at 9.00 a.m. and 2.30 p.m..

Commander 523 Brigade Brigadier Prabath Dematampitiya, Army officers and other ranks serving under the Brigade and residents in surrounding villages attended the inauguration of the new bus service.
