Ever Pongal Rice to be Cooked at Gateway to Jaffna

Thaipongal is considered to be one of the most significant cultural
festivals of the people of Hindu faith. This year Thaipongal celebration
falls on the 15th January. Hindus on this day pay their homage to
the sun which provides light and source of energy to prosper their
cultivation throughout the year.
Joining the Jaffna Hindu community in this annual cultural event,
Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SF-J) has organized a grand
Thaipongal celebration on the 15th January at Elephant Pass (EPS),
the gateway to Jaffna. On directives of the Commander SF-J Major
General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, SF-J will cook the largest Pongal
rice ever prepared in the island at the venue and treat all who
pass the Jaffna gateway. A massive crowd is expected during the
The following day (16), a separate Thaipongal celebration organized
by the SF-J will get underway at the Jaffna Hindu College Main Hall
for the people in Jaffna. Various cultural performances will take
place for the entertainment of children and adults. SF-J has arranged
valuable prizes to participants.
