Holdings Donates Millions Worth Pre-School to Jaffna Kids

While rapid change is taking place in Jaffna under the government-projected
northern development programme “Uthuru Wasanthaya”, education of
Jaffna students is considered prominent. Security Forces Headquarters
– Jaffna (SF-J) in support of the government’s programme has taken
a number of steps to promote education in the peninsula. Releasing
schools within the Palaly restricted zone, reconstructing dilapidated
school buildings and launching scholarship programmes are among
some private-owned institutions have come forward to lend a helping
hand to Security Forces and civil administrative authorities of
Jaffna in this endeavor.
pre-school building constructed by one such donor institute, Hemas
Holdings PLC in Colombo was handed over to the Jaffna Municipal
Council on 11th January to promote pre-school education in Jaffna.
The Company a few months ago purchased the land on the Sangiliyan
road for this purpose before constructing the building equipped
with furniture, teaching and learning aid spending millions. The
new building accommodates hundreds of children in seven classrooms.
The premises consists of a Kovil, a children park and an open theatre.
Minister of Child Development and Women’s Affairs Tissa Karaliyadda
declared open the new pre-school in the presence of a large crowd
of kids, parents and distinguished gathering including Hon Minister
of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Douglas Devananda,
Deputy Director Hemas Holdings PLC Mrs. Mallika Perera, Chief Coordinator
of Civil Affairs SF-J Colonel Wimalanatha Perera and Mayoress Jaffna
Mrs. Y. Pathgunarasa.
