Division Hands over Donations to Civilians on Thaipongal Day

main ceremonies were taking place to celebrate Thaipongal at Elephant
Pass and Jaffna city respectively on 15th, 16th and 17th, Army troops
in Varani organized a ceremony in Chavakachcheri Cultural Centre
for the people in and around Chavakachcheri on 18th.
All arrangements for the ceremony that comprised many cultural events
were made by the 522 and 523 Brigades on instructions and guidance
of General Officer Commanding 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe.
Army cultural troupe and dancing teams of some schools and Ramavil
Welfare Centre presented items in the show staged after religious
observances held at the Hindu temple close by. All who took part
in the show were awarded with valuable gifts by the 52 Division.
Brigade commanders, battalion commanders, officers and other ranks
serving under the 52 Division joined the people in the area to celebrate
this culturally important event.
at the request of the Commander 522 Brigade Colonel Hemantha Bandara,
a Malaysian delegation attached to the Sumagi Gnana
Sathya meditation centre at Kodikamam, donated bicycles
and sewing machines to inmates of the Kodikamam Ramavil Welfare
Centre on Saturday (15.01.2011). The donation of 14 sewing machines
to women and 10 new push bicycles to students at the Welfare centre
was arranged to coincide celebrations on the Thaipongla day.
