& Half Million Worth Flood Relief Sent from Jaffna to Batticaloa

As humanitarian assistance to flood-affected brother communities
in the Eastern Province, District Secretariat Jaffna with coordination
and assistance of Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) dispatched a stock
of relief items to Batticaloa on 14th January.
Items to the value of about Rs. 1.6 million were purchased with
donation of one day salary by staff members of the District Secretariat
and Divisional Secretariats in Jaffna. Responding to the request
of Government Agent Jaffna Mrs. Emelda Sukumar, Commander SF-J Major
General Mahinda Hathurusinghe provided transport facility to take
the stock from Jaffna to Minneriya where authorities of Forward
Maintenance Area of Security Forces Headquarters – East will take
over the consignment to be air lifted to Batticaloa.
The consignment included bed sheets, biscuits, milk powder, mats,
bottles of drinking water and many other urgently-needed items.
In her letter to the GA Batticaloa, GA Jaffna Mrs. Emelda Sukumar
placed a special note to say “We are praying for the fast
recovery for your district from worst disaster”
Sukumar, Army officers, Divisional Secretaries and their staff members
attended the occasion of dispatch of the relief items.
