“Army Won’t Let Anyone Disturb Peace in Jaffna”-Says Jaffna Commander Distributing Rs. 1.2 million Worth Donation to Chava Civilians

“Security Forces and Police based in Jaffna won’t let any gang or individual disturb the day to day life of peace-loving people in Jaffna and do not tolerate any breach of law within the peninsula”, reiterated Commander Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe addressing a large gathering of Army personnel and civilians in Chavakachcheri on Saturday (29.01.2011).

Commander SF-J who was the Chief Guest of the function held at Chavakachcheri Cultural Centre further said that the era of fear and suspicion is gone and Jaffna people had enough suffering for decades. “People in Jaffna once spent sleepless nights. Fall of artillery and mortar shells did not allow our students to learn. With unwavering leadership of His Excellency the President and the dedication of Security Forces, we could bring that era of terror to an end. People must get its dividends. They should any further not undergo pain. All measures have already been taken to curb violence in the peninsula”, Commander said.

The ceremony was organized by the 523 Brigade at Nunavil commanded by Brigadier Prabhath Dematampitiya to hand over donations worth over Rs. 1.3 million to destitute families in the 523 Brigade area.

During this civic-oriented welfare project, one hundred students received parcels of exercise books, pens and pencils. In support of the backyard poultry project initiated by the Jaffna Commander to alleviates malnutrition among children, 100 chicks were distributed among ten selected families. On the same occasion, 1035 coconut plants of high breed were given away to 345 families which could help the economy of them and the country in the long run.

Meanwhile, with sponsorship of Maharaja TV and Maharaja Radio (Pvt) Company 523 Brigade arranged a donation of 50 new push bicycles to needy persons.

In addition, 50 CDMA telephones were distributed among 50 families which are in need of communication facility but not in a position to purchase a telephone. The Suntel (Pvt) Company sponsored the donation.

Religious leaders, Hon. Member of Parliament Mr. Sri Ranga, General Officer Commanding 52 Division Brig. Anura Sudhasinghe, Senior officials of the Suntel and Maharaja Companies, Divisional Secretaries in the area, senior government officials, community leaders and a large crowd of civilians were present on the occasion.
