Ambassador Pledges Support for Jaffna Development Work

A three-member diplomatic team from Swiss Embassy in Sri Lanka headed
by Ambassador His Excellency Thomas Litscher met Commander Security
Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe Monday
(14) morning to exchange views on present development activities
taking place in Jaffna.
Having being welcomed at the Headquarters SF-J by the Commander
SF-J, Ambassador His Excellency Thomas Litscher, Programme Manager
Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Mr. Martin Studer
and Project Manager SDC Ms. Genevieve Contesse were enthusiastic
in learning more about de-mining activities presently going on prior
to resettlement in Jaffna.
Commander SF-J during his briefing gave a detailed account of accelerated
de-mining programme, government’s development activities for Jaffna
and involvement of Sri Lanka Army in those development work and
most significantly, present security situation in Jaffna.
The Swiss ambassador, appreciating security measures in effect and
development work in the peninsula, pledged Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe
of his extensive support in constructing houses for the homeless,
promoting livelihood and other humanitarian projects for Jaffna
people in future too.
