Construction of New Building at Navalar G.T.M.S. to be Finished Soon
[Updated :: 2011-03-23 18:41:37 Hours]

More than half the construction work of new two-storied building at Kopay Navalar Government Tamil Mixed School (G.T.M.S.) has been completed by the 5th Engineer Services Regiment (ESR) of the Sri Lanka Army. Masonry work of the classrooms in the ground floor is almost complete and need only final touches including carpentry and painting. Classrooms upstairs are now coming up with labour of skilled soldiers.

As a gesture of goodwill and with view to strengthening the bond between the people of North and Uva provinces, Chief Minister Uva Province Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksa donated this new classroom building to the Navalar College. Construction of the building is being completed by the soldiers of 5th ESR and other battalions serving under the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SF-J).

Each floor of the building of 90 x 25 consists of 4 classrooms of 20 x 20. Although the total cost is estimated as Rs. 10 million, labour of skilled soldiers will save Rs. 2 millions and finish the work only with Rs. 8 million. Constructions worth over Rs. 5 million have already seen completion.

Foundation was laid to it on 14th November 2010 by the Chief Minister Uva Province Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksa with participation of Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and a host of distinguished guests.
