I Wish You All A Happy New Year! Army Commander

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya took a time off on Sunday (10) from his busy schedule to visit Jaffna and convey his New Year greetings to soldiers who are staying away from their families during the most significant cultural festival season.

On arrival in the Palaly airstrip, the visiting Army Commander was received by the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe who guided Lt. Gen. Jayasuriya to the SF-J auditorium where he addressed officers and other ranks serving under the SF-J.

During his speech, Army Commander reminded the soldiers of importance of resorting to good conduct and to preserve the earned reputation since we, the soldiers are serving in peace time Sri Lanka today. He also highlighted the point that Army is doing its maximum towards the development of the country and will continue to support the government in its development projects in future as well. Lt. Gen. Jayasuriya conveyed his best regards to all troops who are rendering a yeoman service to Jaffna and its people with dedication.

Lt. Gen. Jayasuriya during his speech mentioned that remaining Army troops in Jaffna will be shifted to government lands soon so that private-owned houses presently occupied by the Army could be released. Army Commander met soldiers of the 52 and 55 Divisions at Chavakachcheri Hindu Cultural Centre and conveyed his greetings.

A section of senior officers of the Army Headquarters joined the visit.
