Small Jerad Who Showed Colours at Scholarship Exam Awarded

A grade 5 student who brought honour to his school scoring higher marks at the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination2010, was awarded by the 512 Brigade of Ariyalai at a ceremony organized at his school on Thursday (07).

Jerad Nilakshan of St. Rod School, Gurunagar, who lost the affection of his farther sometimes back, got 164 marks at the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination held in August 2010. Although he has high hopes in continuing education, Jeradís widow mother finds it difficult to bear expenses on her sonís education.

At the hour of need, Army troops serving in the area came forward to assist this studious boy arranging a scholarship with a monthly allowance of Rs. 1000/= with sponsorship of Mr. Jeganeshan, a kind businessman in Jaffna. Jerad will be receiving this financial assistance until he completes G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination.

In addition, Mr. Jeganeshan agreed to colour wash the classroom where Jerad learns. The donor further promised to provide financial support to repair furniture, teaching and learning aid in the classroom annually.

The function was attended by General Officer Commanding 51 Division Major General Janaka Walgama, Commander 512 Brigade Colonel Ajith Pallawala, Army personnel, teachers, students and parents.
