Mega Musical Fiesta Exhilarates Tamil & Sinhala Music Lovers

Another mega show that presented a fine blend of Tamil and Sinhalese
music, organized by the Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SF-J)
together with DAN TV, thrilled many thousands of music lovers gathered
at Muththawali grounds in the middle of the city on Sunday (17)
Jaffna people got an exclusive opportunity to enjoy their favourite
songs of both languages be sung on one stage continuously more than
four hours. Sri Lanka Army band and the “Abina” group led by S.
Shanthan presented their items alternatively while young crowds
fascinated by non-stop performances of the singers and musicians
danced in small groups. Special feature of the show throughout was
that Army band sang Tamil songs and Shanthan’s group sang Sinhala
Meanwhile, occasional enchanting performances by the girls of Sri
Lanka Army dancing troupe added glamour to the musical event.
S. Shanthan and the members of the “Abina” group had earlier served
for the LTTE after they were conscripted and trained by the terrorists.
However, they were fortunate enough to be saved by the Sri Lankan
Security Forces during the last phase of the Humanitarian War and
rehabilitated by the Bureau of Commissioner General Rehabilitation
under the Government’s Rehabilitation Programme for the ex-LTTE
The main partnership for this Army-organized mega show was given
by the DAN TV, a Jaffna-based leading cable TV station which cater
the media needs of people in more than 80 countries.
Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinhe, Chairman DAN
TV Mr. Kuhanathan, senior officers of the Armed Forces, Police and
the civil sector also witnessed the musical show.
