Div Organizes Mobile Eye Clinic for Civilians & Donates Pairs

Varani-based 52 Division of the Security Forces - Jaffna this week
organized another community welfare project for school children
and people in Vadamarachchi and Thenmarachchi areas with assistance
of the Development Lottery Board, Colombo. On initiative of General
Officer Commanding (GOC) 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe,
a stock of spectacles and school items to the value of about Rs.
250.000/- were distributed among the civilians on Saturday (23)
after a mobile eye clinic at Varani Maha Vidyalaya.
Opticians brought from Colombo by the Wickramaarachchi Opticians
initially checked 1013 people with poor eyesight and the Development
Lottery Board donated pairs of spectacles to 903 of them on recommendation
of the opticians. Others were referred to eye clinics of respective
hospitals for further treatments. Members of the Sri Lanka Army
Medical Corps also joined the opticians to check eyesight of the
civilians present at the clinic.
Meanwhile, caps and parcels of school items donated by the Development
Lottery were also distributed among 100 students from various schools
in the 522 and 523 Brigade areas on the same occasion.
GOC 52 Division Brig Anura Sudhasiinghe, Chairman of the Development
Lottery Mr. I.R.W. Dissanayake, Working Director Mr. Pradeep Wijesiriwardane,
Deputy General Manager Mr. Anura Jayaratne, owner of the “Wickramarachchi
Opticians” Mr. Mihira Wickramarachchi and senior Army officers were
present on the occasion.
