Investigations Invalidate Erroneous Media Reports on Anusha’s Murder
[Updated :: 2011-04-28 21:03:40 Hours]

Murder of Selavaraja Anusha (27), a young lady teacher of the Jaffna Hindu College was, after preliminary investigations, proved beyond doubt to have been committed by a youth who had a love affair with her.

Her dead body was found by relatives on 8th April hanging inside the house and a complaint was lodged in this effect by them to the Ilavalai Police. Investigations commenced by the Police when the post mortem confirmed that Anusha had been raped, assaulted, and choked to death. The murderer had later hung the dead body to pretend she had committed suicide.

As the investigations were being conducted by the Police, a few interested parties, using some media, without proper information, attempted to show that Security Forces in Jaffna are involved in the crime.

Some malicious news reports (See Lanka e-news Sinhala report on 20th April) went to the extent that Anusha’s house is situated within the High Security Zone. The website had unethically misled its readers saying that an Army sentry point is located in the close proximity which is totally inaccurate.

However, with the arrest of the suspect, Mariyadas Rajaselvam (22), a fisherman of Point Pedro area, all efforts taken to tarnish the image of Security Forces exploiting the incident proved null and void. The suspect confessed that he had a close affair with the victim for some time and finally killed Anusha to get rid of her.

Motive of such media, that deceit their readers with misinformation, is not clear. But it is clear there are antisocial elements that resist the good relations between the Security Forces and the civil community.
