Subsequent to the International Mine Action Day that fell on 4th of April, a two day mine risk education programme was organized by the Regional Mine Action Office (RMAO) Jaffna in collaboration with Sri Lanka Army on 20th and 21st of April at Jaffna Hindu College.

The workshop included a variety of programmes such as lectures, discussions, dramas and exhibitions to give a comprehensive knowledge on mine risks to schoolchildren, teachers and a section of civilians.

The demonstration presented by mine detection dogs of the Sri Lanka Army impressed all who attended the programme.

Religious leaders, Commander 512 Brigade Colonel Ajith Pallawala and Commanding Officer 1 Field Engineers Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Sarath Dissanayake represented the Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna. Senior appointment holders of DDG, Halo Trust, RMAO-Jaffna and UNICEF were present at the programme.
