of New Building at Thelippalai Mahajana College in Progress

More than 65% of construction work of the first floor of new three-storied
building at Thelippalai Mahajana College has presently been completed
by the Army.
About 70-80 soldiers belonging to various battalions serving under
the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SF-J) are working daily
to see the finish of total construction before the commencement
of the third school term 2011. The 5th Battalion of Engineer Services
Regiment (5 ESR) has undertaken the project on behalf of the Sri
Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe on Thursday (06)
went to the site to see the progress of construction work and met
officers responsible for the project.
The 200 ft x 25 ft new building consisting of 14 classrooms, an
aesthetic education unit and a pavilion comes up at the Mahajana
College on initiative of Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa
and expenses of the project which is funded with financial assistance
of well-wishers and friends of Secretary Defence is estimated to
be around Rs. 25 million.
Foundation was laid to the building on 7th March this year.
Mahajana College which claims a proud history over one hundred years
was founded by an eminent teacher and philanthropist Mr. Pavalor
Thuraiappa Pillai on 14th October 1910. The college last year celebrated
