[Updated :: 2011-06-16 18:35:27 Hours]

Atchelu-based 511 Brigade on Wednesday (15) offered lunch to inmates of the Puttur Elders’ Home and its working staff to mark the Poson Full Moon day.

Puttur Elders’ Home provides shelter to about 50 of aged men and women who are destined to live separated from their family members during the most required days. Children of most of them are living abroad, according to Ms. Thevamalar Thevadasan, the matron of the Home.

Soldiers of the Brigade prepared meals for those love-seeking elders and served lunch to all at the place. In addition to meals, each of them was given peaces of soap, toothpaste, toothbrush and medicinal items.

Before offering meals, troops of the 9th Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry of Kopay cleaned the inside and surrounding of the Elders’ Home and the adjoining Methodist Church.

This alms giving was organized by the Civil Affairs Office of the 511 Brigade.

Meanwhile, soldiers of the 3rd Battalion of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment organized a soft drink Dansala for civilians passing Urelu on Jaffna-Palaly main road.
