Ensure Maximum Security for Democratic Political Campaigns in Jaffna”

In the wake of an incident where a group of people attired similar
to military uniforms had an argument with MSD Police personnel attached
to Jaffna TNA Parliamentarians and disturbed their meeting at Alveddi
recently, a special discussion was held between the Commander Security
Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and four
senior TNA Parliamentarians Saturday (18) at Civil Affairs and Public
Relations Office Jaffna.
Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) immediately after his
arrival from Colombo met the Hon. Parliamentarians and said that
alleged assault on two personal security officers of Parliamentarians
is vehemently condemned.
“The government has created an environment where anyone can engage
in politics in democratic way and being the Jaffna Commander I am
really concerned about the incident that has taken place,” Major
General Mahinda Hathurusinghe said to MPs.
“Police and Army are conducting separate investigations into the
alleged attack and all possible actions against the culprits will
be taken with findings of the investigations,” Jaffna Commander
Hon Parliamentarian Mr. Suhanthiran said that they have discussed
at Parliamentary sessions about the welfare activities that Army
is doing for the civilians in Jaffna but incident occurred on 16th
really is an unfortunate one. They expressed their concerns of the
security for their political campaigns in Jaffna in future. Responding
to it Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe promised that he would
ensure maximum security for their election campaigns. “I am ready
to give whatever the required assistance to the Police to continue
with your campaign for the oncoming local government election if
requested,” Commander said.
Parliamentarians expressed their pleasure about the meeting arranged
to iron out any differences and doubts between the security forces
and TNA MPs.
Hon Jaffna District MPs Mr. Mavai Senadhiraja, Mr. Suresh Premachandran,
Mr. Sumanthiran and Mr. Sri Dharan were present at the meeting.
