Livelihood Development Project Helps Thirty Five Jaffna Widows

The Civil Affairs Office of the 511 Brigade following information
provided by the Kopay Divisional Secretariat conducted a research
and identified 74 families run by women whose husbands are either
dead, totally disable or deserted their families. At the initial
stage of the project, 12 cows were given to 12 women at their request.
Price of one cow is estimated to be Rs. 43000/= and the total expense
borne by the donors on cattle is Rs. 516000/=
23 women who opted to choose goat rearing as their living were provided
with tine sheets, cement and other materials necessary to construct
sheds for goats. Each family received materials worth of Rs. 15000/=
and the total value of the donation of building materials is Rs.
345000/=. On completion of constructions, they will be given animals.
The LEADS sponsored the donation.
511 Brigade Brig. Keerthi Costa graced the ceremony to hand over
the donations as Chief Guest on Monday (04) at Mahathma Jee Montessori
school, Puththur. Jaffna Coordinating Officer of LEADS Mr. K. Janendran
and LEADS Project Officer Jaffna Mr. Ranjith Kumar were also present.
511 Brigade of Atchelu in collaboration with “LEADS”, a non governmental
organization (NGO) launched another community welfare project on
Monday (04) to uplift the living standard of destitute women-headed
families in the Brigade area.
