[Updated :: 2011-07-12 07:00:05 Hours]

Hon. Minister of Economic Development Mr. Basil Rajapaksa on Sunday (10) expressed that Thanankilappu area in Chavakachcheri will soon see a vast change under the government’s development project for the North, Uthuru Wasanthaya (Wadakkin Wasantham). Hon. Minister expressed hopes that life of people in Thanankilappu will be improved than it was earlier as price of their lands rises on par with reconstruction of A-32 Mannar-Jaffna road via Poonaryn and reach for other facilities such as electricity and water.

Mr. Basil Rajapaksa expressed these ideas on Sunday (10) attending a function organized to mark the resettlement of civilians in Thanankilappu area who stayed away until their lands were de-mined by Army Engineer troops. Hon. Minister handed over parcels of dry ration to about 260 families. Donation of dry ration packs and parcels of school items to schoolchildren of all families in the village had been arranged by the 523 Brigade of Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SF-J).

A new bus-halt built by the Army for the convenience of civilians was also opened on the same occasion. The first lamp post was erected to provide electricity to the area in near future which is a vital factor needed for development.

The 523 Brigade cleaned all the wells in the area to ensure availability of pure drinking water to villagers. Army is also constructing houses for the needy people with financial assistance of donors in the north and south.

Hon. Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development Mr. Douglas Devananda, Governor Northern Maj. Gen. G.A. Chandrasiri, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Government Agent Jaffna Mrs. Emelda Sukumar and a large gathering were present.
