Hon. Minister of Economic Development Mr. Basil Rajapaksa reopened the 1 km stretch of Varani area on Kodikamam-Point Pedro main road which remained impassable for civilians for 11 years since it ran through the 52 Division Headquarters. With the release of a part of the lands hitherto held by the Army, it was decided to reopen the road for public since 15th July 2011.

The area just opposite the Headquarters 52 Division of Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) had been declared a restricted area since year 2000 due to security reasons. Owners of 10 houses within the released zone were present on the occasion held to hand back their property by Hon. Minister of Economic Development Mr. Basil Rajapaksa.

Army troops are now settling down in government lands and more number of private houses occupied by the Army are being handed over to their original owners.

Governor Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri, a few Ministers, government officials and civilians attended the occasion.
