President Declares Open the New Two-Story Building Donated to Navalar GTMS by Uva Province

The new two-story building constructed at Navalar Government Mixed Tamil school (G.M.T.S), Kopay with financial assistance of the Uva Provincial Council was declared open by His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday (19).

The Principal of the school Mrs. Shanthini Vageeshan welcomed the President on his arrival before he received blessing attending a special pooja at the Hindu temple inside the school premises. Later, Hon. President unveiled the plaque to mark the opening of the new building.

Chief Minister Uva Province Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksa, addressing the gathering did not forget to extend his sincere thanks to the Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna and the troops for their enormous support and commitment shown to finish the construction so soon.

This 90’ x 25’new two–story 'UVA-NORTH FRIENDSHIP HALL' is a donation of the people of the Uva Province. Foundation stone was laid to this building by the Chief Minister Uva Province Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksa on 14th November 2010. Uva Provincial Council spent Rs. 8.3 million for building materials and construction work was completed by the solders of Sri Lanka Army.

With guidance of Commander Security Forces Headquarters- Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, soldiers of the 5th Corps of Engineer Services (5 CES) undertook construction of the building. 5 CES troops were assisted by soldiers from other Units serving in Kopay to expedite the construction work.

A section of Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, Governor Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri, Chief Minister Uva Province Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksa, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and a large crowd of civilians were present.
