Southern Youths Collect Funds for Children’s Cancer Unit at Thelippalai

The 27-day long march from Point Dondra in Matara that passed 670 km saw its successful end at Point Pedro in Jaffna on Wednesday (27). The “Trail” organized by a group of kind-hearted youths in the down south started on the 1st of July from Point Pedro with noble intention of raising funds for a special cancer unit for children at the Thelippalai cancer hospital.

A meeting had been arranged at the Duraiyappa stadium to welcome the young boys and girls who walked for 27 days on a humanitarian mission. Hon. Parliamentarian for the Hambantota District Mr. Namal Rajapaksa was present to receive them at the stadium where a large gathering joined to congratulate the group of courageous southern youths.

They handed over the foundation stone for the new children cancer unit that was brought from Point Dondra to Dr. Jeyakumaran, the oncologist and the Dr. Kethiswaran, Regional Director Health Services Jaffna on the occasion by Mr. Sivagananathan and Mr. Tharinda Unambuwe.

Government Agent Jaffna Mrs. Emelda Sukumar, renowned Sri Lanka cricketer Mahela Jayawardane, Senior Army Officers of Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna and a large crowd were present.

The foundation stone was later laid at the Thelippalai cancer hospital premises in the same day afternoon.
