Army Distributes 10 more Houses & Artificial Limbs to Needy Jaffna Civilians

Ten more houses constructed by the 511 Brigade of Atchelu with financial assistance of some charity organizations in Kandy were handed over to ten homeless families on Saturday (30).

Those houses were symbolically given to poor residents at Selvanayagapuram and those who were once displaced due to war during a ceremony organized at the Headquarters 9th Sri Lanka Light Infantry at Atchuvely.

Building materials to construct the ten houses were provided to the Army by the Centre for Handicapped Kandy, Rotary Club Kandy and Inner Wheel Club & Zonta Club Kandy.

During the same function, artificial limbs for 29 civilians who turned disable due to war and various other illnesses were distributed by the 511 Brigade. This is the third occasion which disable civilians resident in 511 Brigade area were donated artificial limbs by the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SF-J) with sponsorship of the Centre for Handicapped.

Hindu and Catholic Religious leaders, Commander 511 Brigade Brig. Keerthi Costa graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Chairman Centre for Handicapped and Vice President of Rotary Club Kandy Mr. Shamil Pieris, President Rotary Club Kandy Mr. Leonard de Alvis, Assistant Governor Rotary Club 3220 Mrs. Ayesha Wijeratne, President Inner Wheel Club & Zonta Club Kandy Mrs. Rosmery Greev and Principal Jaffna Technical College Prof. Yogarajan were also present.
