Suspected Person Running Towards Army Camp Arrested & Handed Over to Police
[Updated :: 2011-09-17 16:53:08 Hours]

Truth of the rumours of unidentified criminals or “yaka” running towards Army camps came to limelight when a young person who was in hiding behind a wayside bush for reasons best known to him was captured by the soldiers serving in Chavakachcheri area and handed over to the Police on Saturday (17) morning around 7.45 a.m..

Soldiers who are vigilant round the clock due to rumours of numerous incidents in various parts of Jaffna had first seen a suspicious movement behind a bush in Kanakampulleady area on Chavakachcheri-Point Pedro road. Having observed a person sans clothes, soldiers had attempted to reach him for inquiry before he began to run towards the nearby Army camp on seeing approaching Army personnel.

However, soldiers pursued the suspect in his nudity, arrested him and called the Police immediately to the scene. Later, soldiers found his pushbike parked in the jungle and his clothes packed inside the plastic container on the handle of the bike.

The suspect had been identified as Ramaiyah Kantheepan (27) of Sangaththanai, Chavakachcheri.

Chavakachcheri Police are conducting further investigations to ascertain his motive to keep hidden beside the road and later to run towards the camp.
