[Updated :: 2011-10-10 17:30:19 Hours]

“As members of a professional Army we can be proud of defeating terrorism, that terrorized the island for thirty years, with leadership of His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa. I, with much gratitude, remember all ranks of soldiers who contributed to that victory. Now in post war Jaffna, we have changed our role from a fighter force to a protective force. I am sure you all are happy what we have done and what we are doing for the betterment of people in Jaffna,” said commander Security Force – Jaffna (SF - J) major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe addressing officers and other ranks of the Headquarters SF-J at a function held to celebrate the 62nd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army that fell on 10th October 2011.

He extended his thanks to all soldiers who are serving in the peninsula with utmost commitment to ensure a peaceful environment for people to live.

“We have been able to win hearts and minds of our brother community in Jaffna through various civic-oriented programmes despite false allegations leveled by some foreign interested elements. But foreign diplomats and other international delegations on their visits to Jaffna endorse Army’s work in Jaffna. We must have a flashback at our 62 year long history retrospectively and work towards protecting that reputation earned by former members of our Army. I request you to continue with your good work presently being done for the betterment of people in Jaffna,” SF – Commander said.

On behalf of all ranks serving in Jaffna, Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe paid his gratitude to all who sacrificed their lives and became differently able for the sake of motherland’s sovereignty and wished speedy recovery to those still undergoing medical treatments for their injuries sustained in the war.

After the formal ceremony held at the SF – J Headquarters premises on Monday morning, Brigadier Admin and Quartering of the SF-J Colonel Ramesh Shanmuganathan along with senior officers and medical staff members visited soldiers and sailors undergoing treatment at the Army Base Hospital Palaly and presented gift parcels to them.
