522 Brigade Extends Assistance to more Needy Families in Its Area

Civil Affairs Office of the 522 Brigade at Mirusuvil, in its latest humanitarian assistance, distributed a stock of valuable donation among needy civilians resident in the Brigade area on Saturday (09).

During a brief function organized at Usan Ramanathan Maha Vidyalam to hand over the donations, some more schoolchildren and University students received scholarships and school items while some more families were given backyard poultry and agriculture items to back their domestic economy.

During the function, thirty University Students from selected families with poor income were awarded scholarships of Rs. 1000/= per month. They will be given this monthly allowance for a period of six months.

At the same time, fulfilling a long-felt requirement of Eluthumadduval Government Tamil Mixed School, the 522 Brigade donated a water pump for the convenience of students there. In addition, three pushbikes were also handed over to three school students on the same occasion.

Similarly, Thunukkai Amman and Ketpeli pre- schools where a large number of kids are daily attending were donated plastic chairs, tables, whiteboards and mats while children of both pre-schools received parcels of books as gifts from the Army.

Meanwhile, a few destitute families in the area received items which would help their livelihood. Sewing machines, cows, 200 chicks and plastic water tubes were among the donations. Hindu Seva Sangam of Colombo, which joined the 52 Division on many early occasions to assist needy people in the area, sponsored the donation.

Secretary of the Hindu Seva Sangam Mr. Thiruchelvam, General Officer Commanding 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe, Commander 522 Brigade Brig. Athula Silva, senior officers of the 52 Division and more than 200 civilians were present.

Civil Affairs Officer of the 522 Brigade Lieutenant Colonel L. Ranchagoda coordinated the event.
