Moldavian Defence Minister Visits Jaffna

Hon. Tholhath Ibrahim, Minister of Defence and National Security of Maldives who is on a four day visit in Sri Lanka arrived in Jaffna Wednesday (12) morning.

The visiting Minister with his team of Diplomatic and military officials was received by the General Officer Commanding 51 Division Brigadier Piyal Wickramarathne at the Palaly airport.

Later, he was enlightened on the present security situation and development activities initiated by the government in Jaffna during a briefing conducted at the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna auditorium.

Then the team visited Keeramalai houses constructed under the government’s project of 100 houses built by Jaffna soldiers within 8 days for civilians in the peninsula. Hon. Tholhath Ibrahim appreciated Army’s role in Jaffna when he went to see Thelippalai Mahajana College where Army personnel are constructing a three storied building with financial assistance provided by Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Maldivian Minister also visited the public library, old Dutch fort and the Gurunagar jetty in Jaffna.
