Troops Build Five more Houses for Civilians

more houses constructed with the labour of Jaffna soldiers were
handed over to respective recipients at Rajakamam in Nelliady by
the Commander Security Force – Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda
Hathurusinghe on Monday (24).
Soldiers of the 19th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (19 SLSR)
at Kunjalkadu serving under the 521 Brigade constructed those five
permanent houses within a short period for five homeless families
of Shanmugasundaram paramajothi, Pararajasingam Rathnasingam, Arunasalam
Sivabalasundaram, Sengan Palanimuttu and Angusami Nageswaran.
Financial assistance for constructions was given by HABITAT Sri
Lanka organization that bore an expense of Rs. 225,000/= on building
materials for each house.
521 Brigade donated some kitchen utensils and furniture to the recipients
of new houses.
To mark the function, SF-J Commander and senior officers planted
mango saplings at the yards of houses.
Today’s handing over ceremony was attended by Religious leaders
in the area, Commander SF-J Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe, General
Officer Commanding 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe, Brigadier
Admin and Quartering SF-J Colonel Ramesh Shanmuganathan, Commander
521 Brigade Lieutenant Colonel Tikiri Dissanayake, Commanding Officer
19 SLSR Major Sujeewa Buddhadasa and a gathering of Army personnel
General Officer Commanding 52 and the Civil Affairs Officer coordinated
with the HABITAT Sri Lanka to complete the housing project.
Jaffna soldiers so far have built 1765 houses for homeless families
in the peninsula.
