Sivans Win 523 Cricket Cup 2011

four Sports Clubs in Vadamarachchi and Thenmarachchi areas that
participated in Inter Club Cricket Tournament 2011 organized by
the Civil Affairs Office of the 523 Brigade at Nunavil received
prizes during the finals played at Chavakachcheri public ground
on Sunday (23).
The tournament which saw 24 sports clubs and twelve Army teams under
the 52 Division taking part commenced on 5th September and all matches
were played at the same ground at Chavakachcheri.
Out of all the teams that vied for the trophy, Chavakachcheri Sivam
SC and Madduvil Valarmathy SC were qualified for the finals at which
Chavakachcheri Sivan players won the trophy. 52 Division team won
the Championship of the Army teams while the team of 10th Battalion
Gemunu (10 GW) Watch became the runners up.
S. Theepan of the Sivan SC and K. Kirishan of the same SC respectively
won the award for the best bowler and the best batsman. Out of the
Army players, Corporal N.V. Prasanna of 10 GW and Lance Corporal
W.A.D.C. Roshan of the 52 Division team respectively won the same
Considering overall performance, Kopinath of the Kannan SC was adjudged
the man of the series.
Commander Security Force Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe
graced the final event of the tournament which organized to promote
the sport in Jaffna and to strengthen relationship between the Army
and civilians in the area.
All Sports Clubs that took part in the tournament were given a pack
of sports ware by the Commander SF-J and other senior officers.
Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe gave special gifts to students of Madduvil
school band who made the function colourful with their presence.
Rev. Fr. A.K. Selvanayagam of South Indian Church at Chavakachcheri
delivered the vote of thanks.
