Housing Project for Delft Islanders in Progress

(Sri Lanka Naval Ship) Wasabha deployed at the Delft island, apart
from its main role of giving security to the islanders, has undertaken
a humanitarian project to construct houses for destitute families
living in Delft.
Under this housing project commenced on directives of the Commander
Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral Ravi Wijegunarathne, construction
of ten houses has already been completed and foundations for ten
more have been laid.
Total number of houses that the Navy expects to build is 326 for
the families with low income in the island. Sailors serving in the
Northern Naval Area are contributing their labour day and night
to see that project is completed soon.
Building materials are provided by the Northern Province Governor’s
office under the government’s development programme for the North
“Uthuru Wasanthaya” (Wdakkin Wasantham) and the value of each house
amounts approximately to Rs. 500,000/= including the cost of labour
provided free by the Navy.
