Four-day Trip to Colombo Enhances Knowledge of Jaffna Students

Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office of Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SF-J) last week organized an educational trip to Colombo for a team of students of 11 schools in various parts of the peninsula.

This four day trip covered a range of significant places in Colombo capital which enhanced the knowledge of Jaffna students who found an opportunity to enjoy the brotherly affection of people in the south.

They started the journey from the Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office on the Jaffna Hospital road on 28th October and visited Puttlum Holcim Cement factory, Colombo Milco factory, National Museum, Viharamahadevi Children's Park, Lake House , Colombo harbour, Bank of Ceylon Head Office, Gall Face terrace, National Zoological Garden, Arpico Supper Shopping Center and Sri Jayawardanepura Parliamentary Ground.

Meals were provided by various organizations and individuals for all 78 students, 10 teachers, 10 parents and 10 other guardians until their return to Jaffna on 31st and accommodation had been arranged at National Children’s Education Foundation at Angoda. Headquarters SF-J arranged transport for the trip.

One Army officer and eight other ranks of the SF-J joined the trip to guide and ensure proper coordination.

Ven. Dr. Bandagiriye Somawansa Thero, Founder and Director of National Children’s Education Foundation and Adviser to the President on Pre-school and Basic Education, along with a few other philanthropists in the South sponsored this education trip.

Students of Pallai M.M.V, Masar G.T.M School, Chempiyanpaththu G.T.M School, Maruthankerni H.T.M School, Kovilvayal C.T.M. School, Iyakkachchi V.T.M. School, Pulopallai R.C.T.M School, Iyakkachchi G.T.M School, Aliyavalai C.C.T.M. School, Vethtalaikerni Parameshvaran School and Kaddaikadu R.C. School participated in the tour.
