Central College Students Entertained at “Temple Trees”

of students of J / Velanai Central College in Kayts island last
week had opportunity to visit the “Temple Trees”, the official residence
of the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
They got this golden opportunity during an education tour to Colombo
organized by the 17th Battalion Gemunu Watch (17 GW) serving in
This three day education tour was organized by the Commanding Officer
17 GW Lieutenant Colonel Senaka Premawansa and his staff officers
under the project of uplifting education standard of Jaffna students,
a major concern in the Civil-Military Coordination programme initiated
by the Commander Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda
On the 29th of October, 126 students, 13 teachers and 7 parents
of the J / Velanai Central College were welcomed to the “Temple
Trees” where they were offered lunch and presented parcels of gifts
to mark their visit to the resident of the leader of the country.
Before visiting the “Temple Trees”, Lt. Col. Premawansa took them
around Colombo city to show some important places in Colombo where
none of them had ever been before.
Galle Face, Colombo harbour, Dehiwala Zoo, National Museum, Viharamahadevi
Children’s park, Independence Square, Bandaranaike Memorial International
Conference Hall (BMICH) and the Parliamentary complex were among
other places they visited.
